Photos of the pretty little town of Bruges where I spent my Birthday in 2004.
| The outside of the spectacular Gothic Hall, at the Burg. I wish I lived there! And inside it gets even better, but sadly no photos were allowed inside. Moop. |
| Bruges is wonderfully prettified with many canals, and this is one of the best views of all. pretty pretty pretty!! Some describe it as the Venice of the north, but personally I think it looks like a Belgian flavour of the river Cam. |
| Chocolate! Every other building in Bruges sells millions of these delightful Belgian Chocolates. Delicious! |
| The impressive tower of the Church of Our Lady, and the neighbouring niceness of the museum of the Decorative Arts. |
| More canal prettiness! One day we took a boat ride around the lovely canals, which was most delightful. |
| Bruges is also famous for the millions of pretty lace shops. Mmmmm parasols and fans and sexy underwear! |
| And yet more prettiness. It's hard to find any evidence architecturally that the 20th Century ever reached Bruges. Except for the trees that are all shaped like telegraph poles. WHY? |
| The Fish Market. They still sell real fish at this marketplace, but all I could find on this day were the glass variety. |
| A breathtaking view from the top of the Belfry, where we climbed all the way up, and got deafened by the bells deciding to chime while we were at the top. Eeeep. |
| For my birthday itself, we ended up on a daytrip to Ghent, which has impressive towers like these! |
| Ghent has a nice (although restored) castle. I was convinced it must now be home to a Giant Spider, although sadly none was sighted inside. |
| Ivy atop the battlements at Ghent castle. This is my attempt at a pretentious arty photo. I love Ivy, so there! |
